Rome: why the Vatican Area?
There are several reasons to choose the Vatican Area (called Prati district) for your stay in Rome, being in the city centre but a little outside the confusion and crowds.
The first thing to consider is the vicinity to several important monuments and sites. You can begin with the amazing St. Peter’s Square, visit the biggest church in the world (St. Peter’s Basilica) and then climb on top of the Michelangelo Cupola admiring the view of Rome. After, maybe not immediately after (since you have climbed a lot of steps to reach the top of the Cupola) you can visit the Vatican Museums. If it is not terribly crowded you can enjoy the Sistine Chapel at the end of your tour and see where the Pope’s are elected. Leaving the Vatican Museums you can definitely take the direction of Sant’Angelo Castle and enter the fortress (very interesting inside). Leaving the Castle you can pass the Dell’Angelo Bridge (admiring the statues on the sides on the bridge) and jump in the Navona Square Area.
The second reason is that the Prati District is more airy and less crowded than other parts of the city centre. Here you have large roads, many shopping streets (Via Cola di Rienzo just to mention the most known), and a lot of non touristy restaurants. If you skip the ones right besides the Vatican museums you have a large choice of Pizzerie, Trattorie and bars where you can eat without spending a fortune.
The third reason is the Borgo District, a nice small area right between St. Peter’s Square and Sant’Angelo Castle where you can enjoy a relaxed and charming atmosphere in a true roman environment.
Last but not least, is the wide choice of accommodations you have in this area. Several good bed and breakfasts, independent apartments and residences with a really good quality/price ratio. You are going to spend at least the 20% less than in other parts of the city.
It is enough that you have a look into the Vatican section of our website to understand how many good solutions there are for your stay in this area.
